My suggestion would be to visit the browning site . 1st you should be able to find the date of manufacture and perhaps determine a model . 2nd you can download the manual .read it cover to cover .from there you should be able to disassemble the gun and diagnose the problem .

Jul 18, 2009 · Browning A5 doesn't eject when fired. I have a new-to-me Browning Auto 5 (1929, 12 gauge) that doesn't eject spent shells when fired. I'm using Remington STS #8 2-3/4" ammo and the friction ring is set for light loads. When cycling manually it works beautifully, so the ejector is obviously functioning, but the bolt isn't coming back far enough ... Take out the firing pin retaining pin by punching it out right to left. Slide the firing pin out the back and the locking block through the top of the bolt. Remove the extractor (right side of the bolt) and shell support (left side of the bolt). They are both held in by a pin and a spring. This one seems to cycle fine and the problem with easily cycling from the magazine to the chamber with the latch in front of the trigger seems to be corrected.

Keep a very light film of good gun oil on the magazine tube where these parts slide on. Make sure you fully compress the barrel into the action when tightening your magazine cap.
