Jun 13, 2016 · Welcome to the Nebraska Silos website. On this site you will find photos and information about the Nebraska Atlas F Missile Sites that were active in the early 60's. Along with photos and information of some of the other sites located in other states. The Atlas was the United States Air Force's first operational Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). The Atlas had been in development since the end of World War II in 1945. A test model that only had a range of 600 miles, known as the Atlas A, was launched at Cape Canaveral, Florida in June 1957.
