When you reach the Gateway Engine use the material needed. Then grab the 2 Geometric Triptychs you made then use one for the Gateway Engine. Save the other one for when you have one from each planet. When you have all 7 Geometric Triptychs (one form each planet) go to the Gateway Portal with the 7 Geometric Triptychs.

Each core has a different resource needed to activate it. If you want the list, go check the astroneer wiki. Checking the Wiki would be plain cheating... the right way is going down to the core, checking the resource needed for activation and going back all the way to the surface to get it.
